How It Started

When I tell you that this year has been flying by, I mean it. I seriously had all intentions of writing my second month income report and then my third month income report but, LIFE happened, time flew by and here we are with a dual income report. When February started I did a sale for my birthday, which was February second. I turned thirty-four so of course my sale was 34% off the entire site. I’m such a giver I know. 😁 I also did a Valentine’s Day sale where I gave 20% off for the holiday.

During the month of March I also gave a few sales. I provided my customers with a 20% off coupon code off of all of our products. I also created a special shirt for my customers who shopped with me from December 14th (my first day in business) until March 14th. Everyone who bought something from Blogging Over Everything received “It’s the Support for me” shirt 30% off code for the life of the shirt. I also gained an influencer in which I also created a coupon code for. To say the least, both months started out with tons of sales. Let’s see how they helped me out overall.

The Ugly Truth

I honestly think this might be some of my readers favorite part of my post. 😬 I believe in being honest and transparent. Over the last two months I’ve been trying to figure out how to make more money, gain more followers and how to FINALLY get approved for Instagram shopping! The ugly truth about starting a business is nothing will be easy. I’m telling you now you won’t make thousands of dollars in the beginning, especially if you are starting from ground zero. You have to be ok with your friends and family NOT being your number one customer.

You also have to realize that although you have goals, sometimes you won’t meet them. The world as we know it, is now more than ever “DIFFERENT”. So even small businesses that were open before the pandemic don’t know what the next month may hold. Let’s be real here, a pandemic changes a lot for a business, heck even for us humans. But the thing to remember is your fight and determination to make it through the next day and even the next month.

Building A Strong Support System

I honestly can’t say this enough, building a strong support system is EVERYTHING. Not only in business but also in life. Support will get you through the lowest times within your business journey. Especially on those days when obtaining a sale seems impossible. On those days you really need your support, because sometimes you get inside if your own head and start to question rather or not you made the right decision in starting the business in the first place. It happens, we’re human, and doubt is inevitable. It’s the strong support system that keeps you motivated, and inspired to fight another day.

How do you find the support you need to keep going? You don’t, they find you. The best support is the most authentic kind. You don’t get to pick and choose who supports you. Trust me, it’s nothing better than when it’s organic. That’s why you have to be yourself when you post on social media. Gain a following organically and allow your followers to determine if your brand is worthy of their support.

How’s It’s Going

I know some of you may be asking yourself, how are things going right now? I mean I have been in business now over four months. Well I want to catch you up on my last income report. Blogging Over Everything’s One Month Income Report. This will give you great insight on how my first month in business went. Currently I have been doing good on social media. I have been consistently posting on both Facebook and Instagram. Through those post I have been able to maintain a certain goal every month and have been able to hit it consistently except for March. So let’s see what I did right and and what I may have done wrong.

Mapping Out What I Did This Month

The best way to discover what is working and what isn’t, is to keep track of what you did every single month and try to duplicate it, if it worked or changed the things that didn’t. I’m going to try to make this short and sweet while jam packing it with tons on information from February and March. The number one thing that I did right was getting my Instagram shopping up and running. It took me months but after working with several different reps from Facebook and Instagram we finally got it figured out. Now I’m not saying that, not having Instagram shopping is the reason why I didn’t make my goal for the month of March, but I do believe it could’ve helped me. So let’s see how my social media helped me during these months.

Instagram

In the month of February I posted a total of 40 pictures/reels. Out of those 40 post 2 of them were reels. I gained over 300 followers in the month of February. Most of those followers came from the Bloggers Bloom Loop which consist of bloggers. In the month of March I posted a total of 52 pictures/reels. Out of those 52 post only 1 was of a reel. I gained over 500 followers in the month of March. All of these stats help me create a successful income report for the next two months so pay attention.

Again most of those followers came from the Bloggers Bloom Loop which consist of bloggers. Now although I gained plenty of followers from that particular loop, I also lost followers, and then I also realized that gaining followers do no equate to customers. At some point during your business journey you realize it’s not all about followers, especially if those followers do not equal dollar signs. I mean this is a business, so from the very beginning only focus on followers who are your potential customers and focus less on how many followers you actually have.

Just like my last post I have to tell you which post got the most likes, comments, and saves. If it’s not broke don’t fix it right? So Every month I want you to see what worked for me and my community. Now another thing that I want you to keep in mind is that from one month to the next I would’ve gained at least 500 followers. So with that being said my likes and comments will reflect such (aka a increase in likes).

Inventory

During the month of February and March I introduced Bella + Canvas t-shirts with more spring colors. From December until February all I sold was strictly black and white t-shirts. So of course during my birthday month I had to spice things up. So with Bella + Canvas t-shirts I added eight different colors. I also created my very first blogging notepad that I put a lot of thought into.

As a new business owner you are simply learning what your customers want more of and what they could use less of. I added a reversible tote bag to my inventory during February as well. Although this wasn’t supposed to added to the inventory it definitely was, I created my own die cut stickers that I actually gave away to every customer who purchased anything from my website as a freebie. Blogging Over Everything also added a Tie Dye logo Tee, and Failure is not an Option Sis tee as well.

In March we introduced the Love yourself tee, and It’s the Support for Me tee. I realized that over the last couple of months my followers cared about self care, and were a lover of support. When your customers speak, you listen, well you do if you want to be successful. So when I’m in a creative mindset I go with it! I created enough shirts for spring and summer. I’ll need another creative mindset for my fall and winter, but I’m up for a challenge.

Setting Goals

Let’s talk about these goals! Now my goals for February and March was to make a consistent five hundred dollars a month. Nothing less than $500 every month is my goal. I also started doing bulk orders for other bloggers and entrepreneurs within the month of March. So if my customers needed custom shirts or notepads, I am now their one stop shop for it all. So I want to be able to raise my goal from five hundred a month to hopefully seven hundred with bulk orders included. You’re not doing business right if you don’t have goals.

How I Made $913.70 in Two Months

Now for the moment everyone has been waiting on! How did Blogging Over Everything make $913.70 in two months. Well first of all we will need to break it down by months. So to be clear in the month of February Blogging Over Everything made $535.49. For March we made $378.21 which is not what I wanted to end the month with but sometimes you win some, and sometimes you loose some. We lost in March, but the goal remains the same.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, your support system is the LIFE of your business. You are here to please one group of people and that is your customers. You listen to your customers and your customers alone. They are your money makers. Your support system is there to support the decisions you make for you business, hype you up and let you know when you’re going down the wrong path. Nothing more and nothing less, so let’s get real transparent for a minute or five. 😂😬

I want you to see my numbers in real time so you can see how well or bad I did every month. I don’t see the point in writing about my journey if I’m going to leave out the important or juicy stuff. It all comes down to the numbers. So let’s jump right into it shall we?

My February Dashboard

So let’s get down to the nitty gritty. Currently you are looking at my February dashboard. From February 1st until the 28th, I made $535.49. Which is not as good as last month but I still made my $500 goal which is amazing for a new business owner. If you haven’t read my last income report the Online Store is where people actually came onto the site and purchased items. As you can see I made $535.49 from the actual site this month.

I had 355 sessions in the month of February which is over a hundred more than I did last month. Sessions are where my customers are surfing my site. I had 337 visitors on my site during my second month in business. Now as you can see I have a green arrow upwards with 47% which means this time I did way better then last month. Which is exactly what you want to happen. You always want to trend upwards. Green means good, red means bad.

Average order value is $39.68, which to me as a business owner means that if I want to continue to make around $535 a month that I will need to make at least $39.68 per order. I made my $535.49 off of 14 orders. One less than I had in January which would make sense why I didn’t make as much as last month.

Now let’s move onto our conversion rate. I had 18 sessions where people actually Added something to their Carts but as I previously told you I only had 14 orders. Which is why the next number below it says 17 sessions for my Reached Checkout. I’m not going to lie and say I know what the Sessions Converted is, and although I said that I would know what it is by my next income report, I fibbed 😬🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️. I’m a small business owner who works full time, I got a little busy.

Next let’s see what our Top Products were. From my dashboard you can see that there was a tie between our i blog pen and our Failure Is Not An Option T-shirt as our Top Sellers. Next is the Online Store Sessions by location and of course most of my traffic came from right here in the United States. 263 people to be exact came to my site from the United States.

Canada was next up with a strong 46 people, my next highest doesn’t say where my customers came from BUT I had 4 people from Ireland and 3 people from Puerto Rico. I’m world wide baby! Then you have the Sessions by the Device Type. Looks like most of my customers came to my website via their mobile device which is trending from last month. Now onto March dashboard! I’ll play nice and sum it up for you. 😂

My March Dashboard

March, March, March, why did you dislike me so much?! I was sooo good to you and this is what you do to me?! You ruin my two month streak?! 😩🤦🏽‍♀️ Anyway let’s get down to the basics people! You’re probably a pro at reading these by now so talk about it. As you can tell I only made $378.21 which is not terrible for three months in business but when you set a goal and you’ve been consistently crushing it, it’s heartbreaking to have a slow month.

I almost had as many sessions as last month and yet I didn’t hit my goal. We had more return customers in March then I did in February which is so great! That means that I have an audience that I’m actually listening to. My average order went down to $37.82. Which tells me that I do not want to make this amount on a average order, ever. And I had 4 less orders than last month. But by the way my sales were going I doubt the 4 orders would’ve given me my $500 goal. But you never know, it definitely could.

The most important facts about this dashboard is my Top Products sold which is my I blog pen once again. Then you want to make note of where your potential customers are coming from and then what most people use to view your site. For the last three months my customers and/or potential customers have viewed my site from there mobile device. That let’s me know when I’m designing my site to make sure it looks amazing on the cell phone view.

Goals for April

Of course the goals for April will not change. Missing my Monthly goal in March is nothing but motivation to kill it next month. So the plan is to make up for whatever I missed in March. Looks like I’ll need to make $121.79 over my $500 goal for next month. Which really means that I need to look at what I did in February and replicate that in April.

I also plan on releasing a new shirt in April. As inspiration comes you have to knock it out. I’ve been going through a lot in my personal life and sometimes when you’re on an emotional rollercoaster you tend to get inspired and I definitely did. So be on the lookout for some new shirt designs for next month and make sure you support your girl so I can hit my goal for the month of April.

Before You Go!

If you made it this far in my income report you deserve an award! I jam packed this blog post with so much information that I either motivated you or detoured you from ever trying to go into business for yourself. There are only a few things that I want you to remember from this post.

  1. Find your support system
  2. Know what your customers want
  3. Learn from wins and also from your losses and take notes
  4. Set goals and try to stick with them

I also want you to remember that you should try something new. Different is good sometimes, and although most of my customers come from Instagram does not mean that you won’t find valuable customers from other social media platforms.
