Hey loves! I’m coming at you with something completely new for Designs by Vee. I’m hitting you with a DIY! Who would’ve ever thought that I would be showing you how to design floral letters? Well sometimes my creativity works in amazing ways. I actually came up with the idea when I was thinking of ideas to re-design my office. I wanted something different, and something fun that meant something to me. There is absolutely no way an item bought in a store or Etsy would give me the satisfaction of creating it myself. So with that being said, I’m going to show you a quick and Easy DIY Floral Letters for any room in your house.

Supplies Needed for your Floral Letters

  • Floracraft Styrofoam Sheet
  • Artificial Flowers of your choosing
  • Paper Letter in the Design of your liking
  • Large Knife
  • Glue Gun
  • Shears
  • Patience

Step One:

Now the first step of course is opening up the styrofoam. If you get the long sheet like I did then you will want to trace out the letter on the sheet first. If you are doing a long name or word I suggest getting the 1.8inx11.8inx35.8in sheet. (Like the one pictured) If you are just doing one letter I would suggest the 2inx11.9inx17.9in sheet. (Also pictured with the “V”).

When you start to trace out the letter you can do it one of two ways. Take a sharpie and outline the letters. OR you can trace it with your knife like I did. (Keep in mind that this styrofoam is super thick so you will have to apply a lot of pressure when actually cutting out the letters.)

Now the reason I used the knife instead of a sharpie was pretty simple. I did not want to damage the letters because I intended on taking them back. I picked these specific letters because I liked the design. But you can pick paper or wood letters if you like, and if you’re fancy use your own handwriting. My handwriting sucks so I will leave the free hand to you professionals. I know my strengths and my weaknesses. 😂😘

Step Two:

Simply put you have to cut out the letters with your knife. If you haven’t gotten your arm exercises in yet you will in this step. This is also where your patience comes into play, because I almost gave up on my first letter. 😂 No lies told here.

See my “V” is not perfect BUT wait until you see the after!

What I REALLY want you to remember is that you don’t have to be a pro when cutting out the letters in the styrofoam. If you cut too close or to wide it’s ok! That’s the great thing about the flowers, they hide all your imperfections. It’s called makeup for the crafts. 🤣 (I kidd, I kidd).

Step Three:

Here comes the fun part, cutting the flowers! So this step seems simple and for most of the flowers it is. But for others it’s all about making sure you have the sharpest shears. Certain stems will give you a run for your money to cut. This is why I had to be even more specific by showing you in these videos.

Cutting the stem of your flower. (Easy)

When you get a stem that refuses to cut easily with your shears, you cut, twist, pull.

Step Four:

Placing the flowers in your letter. Now this is when your creativity comes into play. You let your inner designer overcome you and you decide where you want the placement of the flowers to go and then the color pattern. The good thing about this styrofoam is that if you place a stem somewhere you don’t like it, it’s easy to readjust the flower if not by just re-sticking it into the foam then by using a hot glue gun. You can’t fail at this unless you just give up.

Even if you cut the stem of your artificial flower too close or you knock some of the flowers off and have petals everywhere, you can still glue those into your letters. Be creative.

Making Every Flower Count

Now Rome was not built in a day and neither were my floral letters. I had to step away from putting in flowers every couple of hours and even an entire day. Just so my vision stayed the same and it didn’t looked rushed nor ugly. Anyone who knows me, knows I stay pride in my crafts! But here is the final product ladies and gentlemen.

My Office that totally needs to be decorated. This is only the beginning!

The finish product on my office wall. Live and in color!

Before You Go!

I want you to remember that DIY’s are suppose to be FUN! Heck, 🤐 near therapeutic. So if you aren’t having fun then you are definitely doing something wrong. This was my FIRST time doing these floral letters and I’d have to say I did a G🌺R🌻E🌼A🌷T job! But don’t let me pat myself on my back. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section. Don’t forget to share this post with friends and family members who might be as creative as you.

I’m not a pro at this as you can see but if you ever need any help completing your letter definitely reach out! Or if you would like for me to make one for you I’m sure we can work something out as well. That’s just the entrepreneur in me.
