How to Get Started

Now if you’re anything like me then you already have some craft supplies that can get you started with. I wanted to make some fall floral arrangements and cute pumpkin decorations for my coat rack that has been pretty empty since I put it up. All you have to do is figure out what kind of decorations you want and/or need to add to your collection.

What You Will Need

Let’s review what you will need if you choose to add some decorative pumpkins and floral arrangements to your fall decor this year. I’m going to make this as cheap as possible!

  • Fake Pumpkins (This is up to you as far as style and texture)
  • Mason Jars (Any size you like)
  • Acrylic Paint (Any color that goes with you decor scheme)
  • White Chalk Acrylic Paint
  • Fall Flowers (Any colors of your choosing)
  • Ribbon (Optional – I’m using mine to decorate my mason jars)
  • Fake Fall Leaves (Also Optional)
  • Sponge Brush (Gives a good distress look)

Step 1: Getting Materials Prepped

First things first. You have to get all of your materials prepped and ready to go. In my case, I washed my mason jars and wiped off my pumpkins to prep for painting. Next, I then got my paint brushes out, a small plastic plate to pour my paint on, and all the acrylic paint I planned on using. I went ahead and opened them up so they would be ready to be used. I also used scrap paper to dry my pumpkins and mason jars on. But you can use whatever you have in house that you don’t mind getting paint on.

Step 2: Time to Paint

Of course I don’t know about you but painting is so therapeutic for me. I use to paint abstract art a few years ago just for fun and it definitely helped my serenity, my peace, and most of all my relaxed state. So naturally painting these mason jars and pumpkins took me right back there. I’m not going to lie, although very messy, I had so much fun doing it. Plus everything was so cost efficient, how do I resist? 🤷🏾‍♀️

Painting Mason Jars and Pumpkins will take more than One Coat. If you want a clean look.

Now how many times you coat your mason jars or pumpkins it totally up to you. It really just depends on how light or dark of a look you are going for. There is no wrong way to do this, unless you get paint on your furniture.

Step 3: Let Dry and Repeat

I personally painted my mason jars and pumpkins three times. When I started to paint my teal mason jar I painted once with the white chalk paint and then twice with the teal acrylic paint. Between each coat I let them dry for at least an hour with my ceiling fan on.

Now when painting the mason jars or the pumpkins you will naturally have to do more than one coat simply because you will take off some paint while holding the jar and/or pumpkin. But also you have to lay the mason jar or pumpkin down and you might have to do some touch ups here and there. This also goes with the pumpkins that ironically rolls on the sides you still need to finish drying. I actually got some paint on these pretty gray floors from a couple of wet pumpkins getting away from me. 😂 So you have been forwarned.

Step 4: Enjoy the Finish Product

You did it! You put in all the hard work and now the easy part! Decorating your fall décor master pieces and deciding where you are going to put them. I really hope you enjoyed the process as much as I did. Now that you have extra material I’m expecting some more amazing DIY projects. Please share pictures of your final outcome! I’d love to see them.

It’s always nice to see the before and after of a project!
