So You Need A Fitting Room

I’m back at it ladies and gentlemen! Giving you clear insight on what retail associates not only go through on a daily basis, but I’m also giving you the inside scoop on the voices in our heads. Topic of discussion this week is “So You Need A Fitting Room.”

I just want you to keep in mind that these rants are for entertainment and to make you more aware as customers. Everything discussed in these rants has happened in the course of my retail days, or has happened to fellow coworkers, friends, or family members.

In other words I couldn’t make this stuff up if I wanted to. Here is the Ugly Truth about retail.

The Conversation

Customer: “Excuse me do you have these pants in a 36×32?”

Me: “Hmm…Is it not on the rack? Let me check in the back.”

I proceeded to go into the back room to do a stock check. Luckily for him and for me that I didn’t have to climb a ladder to get his pants.

Me: “Here you go. Aww it’s the wrong color.” Do you want to try these pants on while I go to the back to get the right color for you?”

Customer: “Yeah, I’ll try them on.”

The customer goes to the fitting room and I head to the back to pick out the correct color pants.

After I found the correct size and color pants I dropped off the item to the customer while he was in the fitting room.

The Walk Through

As I was walking through the fitting room to pick up any “go backs” aka unwanted merchandise that was left throughout the fitting room by other customers. I happen to look down as I was about to walk out the fitting room and saw the pants I searched forever and a day for on the floor.

Now it would be one thing if the man had left the pants IN the fitting room. Hell, I would even accept him leaving the pants on the floor IN the fitting room. But to leave these dress pants that I worked so hard to find for you outside the fitting room on the side of the fitting room floor….

You are down right disrespectful, that was a major F*** you and any help you provided me; in my eyes. I am very much a stickler for “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

I got on my walkie so fast and told my manager “I am no longer helping that man with A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G.” He legit came into the fitting room and walked out, without hanging the pants back up, he had the audacity to drop the pants on the floor.

Thoughts?

Now I know some might say “well he might have dropped it when he was walking out and didn’t know it.” And I might’ve accepted that plea IF the pants wasn’t strategically dropped on top of a box that was on the fitting room floor.

I want to know what your thoughts are as a customer or even an associate. How would you feel if you were me in this situation? Am I wrong for feeling disrespected?

Oh Wait, There Is More…

So after I made it clear to my manger that I was DONE with him, she get’s her dose as to why. The customer comes up to the register to buy the correct pants that I found but he also had a couple pair of socks.

Now let me give you a little insight on the sale we had that day. In our store we have men socks on sale 3 for $15. So if you don’t get 3 pairs the socks, the price will be whatever the tag says.

The Checkout

The customer comes up to the register and ask my manger.. “How much are these socks?.”

Manager: “The socks are 3 for $15. But if you only get these two socks then they will be whatever is listed on the tag.

Customer: “Ooookk….well how much is that?”

My manager turns a pair of socks over and reads the tag “It will be $8.95.”

Customer: “Even if I only want two?”

Manager: “Yes.”

Customer: “Well I don’t want them.”

Periodt

After my manger get’s done ringing him up, I hear her on the walkie. “Girl, please get your customer.” I laughed out loud. “I told you I wasn’t messing with that man anymore.”

Now we understand that we are all human and we all make mistakes. But some people are simply ignorant. In life you just have to call a spade a spade. This man was blatantly disrespectful and I refuse to be subjected to anyone’s ignorance. I legitimately do not get paid enough.

I respect my elders, but hell they need to respect me too! Periodt!

Moral Of The Story

People will be people and Ignorance is Bliss!
